    Central Lane Communications operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Employees work 4 -10 hour shifts a week, with 3 consecutive days off.  Employees alternate between a 6 month day and night shift, which are selected by seniority.

    Employees currently work 4 overlapping shifts. Those shifts are:

    Early Day Shift / 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    Late Day Shift / 11:45 a.m. to 9:45 p.m.       

    Early Night Shift / 4:45 p.m. to 02:45 a.m.

    Late Night Shift / 9:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.

    Each shift starts with a 15 minute briefing to share information and discuss any issues.

    Full staffing of the Communications Center includes forty-six Communications Specialists, six line level supervisors, one training supervisor and one system analyst. Minimum shift staffing requires one Communications Supervisor and eight Communication Specialists during peak hours and one Communications Supervisor and seven Communications Specialists during off-peak hours. Peak hours are between 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. and off-peak hours are from 3:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.


    There are 3 classifications of Communication Specialists in the Center:

    Communication Specialist 1 - a Entry Level Calltaker/Dispatcher position

    Communication Specialist 2 - a Journey Level Calltaker/Dispatcher position

    Lead Communication Specialist - a Lead Calltaker/Dispatcher position
