City Manager Jon Ruiz has responded to a request from Mayor Piercy and the City Council to schedule a work session for the Council to develop a method to provide effective direction to the Police Auditor and to discuss their oversight authority in settling disagreements between the Police Department and the Auditor. The session will take place on November 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the McNutt Room, City Hall. In order to support the Council in their oversight role, City Manager Ruiz today outlined a number of steps he has taken to analyze current Auditor/Police issues and to provide direction to new acting Police Chief Pete Kerns. Ruiz provided a statement to the Mayor and Council, along with supporting documents, regarding his support of the Civilian Review System and his position on matters including intake of complaints, release of complaint information to the Auditor, Auditor participation in investigation interviews, and conduct of concurrent administrative and criminal investigations. "I know the Council is committed to the success of the Auditor and the Civilian Review Board and to building the community’s trust in the Eugene Police Department, and I am working diligently to ensure these efforts succeed," said Ruiz. |
