Summer in the city – Live Music (formerly called Summer Concerts in the Park) features Calamity Jazz playing Dixieland, jazz & swing on Sunday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. in Washburne Park, Agate & 20th. Free. Come enjoy an evening full of talented youngsters on Wednesday, July 14 at 6:00 p.m., at Summer in the City – Downtown, at Broadway Plaza, Broadway & Willamette. The kids in KIDZ ROCK will blow you away! The rising musical “talents of tomorrow” perform and the evening also features an area for Eugene’s best skateboarders to demonstrate their skills and support the construction of the new Washington/Jefferson Skatepark. City of Eugene skateboard instructors will be on hand with skateboards and helmets to help youngsters try skateboarding. Suggested donation is one can of food for the Relief Nursery or $1 per adult. Also at Wednesday’s event: Reduce your chances of becoming a victim of property or personal crime. Eugene Police Crime Prevention Experts will be on hand with the latest tips and programs for you and your family. And, let your creativity flow at M.E.C.C.A’s imagination station! At 6:00 p.m. at every Summer in the City - Downtown event, be a part of the magic and create your own themed art projects: stickers, hats out of paper bags, headbands, masks, shoe art, face painting and much more! Then, on Thursday, July 15, at 6:30 p.m., more Summer in the City – Live Music (formerly Concerts in the Park) when Hookah Stew plays rock, funk, and powerpop at Monroe Park, 10th & Monroe. Known for their wide musical range, and frenetic live shows, Hookah Stew has become a well known name on the West Coast music scene. The Portland, Oregon trio met in 2007 and within months was on the road with a mission to rock every city in their path. They have a full summer of touring the West coast including this stop in Eugene. Free. To round out the week, enjoy a showing of The Sandlot, (PG) 101 minutes, on Friday, July 16, at sundown (9:00-ish p.m.) at Washington Park, 19th to 21st along Washington St. Free.
