Just after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, Eugene Police patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery at the U.S. Bank branch at 1685 West 18th Avenue. Witnesses told 9-1-1 calltakers that the suspect, described as a white male in a yellow, hooded raincoat, had fled on foot. Arriving officers met a bank employee who said the suspect had run south across the pedestrian bridge into the Westmoreland park area. Additional citizens led officers to a point where they spotted a subject running, although now without the yellow coat. Responding officers were able to track the progress of the runner until others were able to intercept and detain him on the east-west bicycle path near Polk Street. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Eugene resident William Ian Maver. Officers recovered money taken and the jacket the suspect wore in the bank, and arrested Maver and lodged him at the Lane County Jail on charges including Robbery 3, Theft 1, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and unrelated outstanding warrants. Maver was later also identified as a fugitive from another state. # # # |
