Case No. 05-11486 Eugene police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying two men who reportedly acted in a suspicious manner near children in a north Eugene neighborhood park. Eugene Police responded on Monday, June 20, at 7:30 p.m. to a report of a man observing children with binoculars from an older blue full-sized van parked near the playground at Martinique Avenue & Barbados Drive in the Crescent Meadows neighborhood. The vehicle was driven by a white male in his 40's or 50's, with longer graying hair, a full beard, and glasses; witnesses say he was smoking as he sat in the van. A second male, who was seated in the rear portion of the van, was described as a white male in his 30's, with dark brown hair. The men acted nervous and fled when they were scrutinized by neighbors. Police spoke to area residents, who told them this was not the first such incident involving suspicious conduct and the van. Neighbors said they had seen the men engaged in similar conduct days earlier. Subject #1: White male, 40's–50's, gray wavy collar-length hair, beard, medium complexion, plastic-frame sunglasses, casual appearance, smokes cigarettes. Subject #2: White male, 30's, brown short straight hair, casual appearance. Vehicle: 1970's full-size van, possibly a Chevy, blue with possible multiple shades, rust/primer spots, bubble windows at rear corners, reflective shade inside. Police are hoping a member of the public can help them identify the men to further detectives' investigation of this suspicious condition. Anyone with information is asked to call the Investigations Tip Line at 682-8888. This incident is a good reminder to families that, as summer begins and children spend more time playing outdoors, it would be wise to conduct a refresher with children, to ensure they know what to do if contacted by an unknown adult.
