Eugene Stream Team needs help salvaging native wildflowers from the footprint of a home about to be built in the hills of southeast Eugene Thursday, June 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. The property owners are working with Habitats, a green building company, to maintain as much native landscaping as possible and offered Stream Team the opportunity to salvage plants from the site where the house and garage will be situated. Stream Team Coordinator Lorna Baldwin and Mieko Aoki, a long-time Stream Team volunteer who also now works for Habitats and is acting as the liaison for this project, are hoping for a good turn-out of volunteers. “We need as many volunteers as possible to salvage some beautiful native wildflowers,” says Baldwin. These plants will be grown-out at one of Stream Team's two volunteer-run native plant nurseries and ultimately replanted in natural areas around the city. Tools, shovels, gloves, work instructions, and a snack will be provided. Stream Team provides the opportunity for people to do hands-on environmental work, restoring and caring for the city's waterways and natural areas.
