Bailey Hill Road Safety Improvements
Project Construction
Construction on Bailey Hill Road between Bertelsen and 18th Avenue is scheduled to begin during the third week of June, 2009. Work on the road should be completed by the first week of September, 2009. The $1.267 million project will be constructed by Egge Sand & Gravel. The City of Eugene was awarded an Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Pedestrian and Bicycle Grant to fund a number of important improvements to enhance the safety of all road users in this corridor.
Planning and Outreach
During the spring of 2008, the City of Eugene held a series of three public workshops to address safety issues and concerns on the section of Bailey Hill Road from West 18th Ave to Warren St. The goal of this process was to develop a concept design that addresses operational and safety issues with the input of nearby residents, the broader community, stakeholders, and City engineering staff.
The first workshop, held on Wednesday, April 9th, highlighted work completed to date and provided an opportunity for participants to learn about a potential redesign of the street. The second meeting held on Wednesday, May 7th provided additional technical information to participatns. City staff presented a refined concept design at the final workshop on Wednesday, June 4th. All of the meetings were held at the Churchill High School Library at 1850 Bailey Hill Road in Eugene.
