1st Avenue Public Animal Shelter
The 1st Avenue Shelter provides services for the Cities of Eugene and Springfield, and Lane County. The shelter cares for stray, abandoned, and neglected animals, reunites owners with their pets, provides medical attention, and finds new loving homes for animals.

- City of Eugene Dog licenses can be purchased or renewed at the Shelter.
- The City of Eugene's low cost Spay and Neuter Clinic opperates out of the same location: 541-682-3643.

Contract for Service
Along with Lane County and the City of Springfield, the City of Eugene contracts with Greenhill Humane Society SPCA, a local nonprofit 501c3 organization, to operate the 1st Avenue Shelter at the publicly-owned shelter facility. As an independent contractor, Greenhill is compensated for contracted services the organization provides to the City of Eugene.

Animals Transfered from Shelter to Greenhill Humane Society
Several times a month, some animals are transferred from the shelter to Greenhill Humane Society. This is done for serveral reasons including getting animals more exposure to potential adoptive families, and ensuring there is always some kennel space availble for incoming animals at the shelter.
