2008 Awards and Recognitions
City People
Mark Schoening, City Engineer, was named 2008 Professional Manager of the Year in Engineering and Technology by the national American Public Works Association.

Tim Doll, Eugene Airport Director, was recognized as the 2008 Airport Executive of the Year by the Northwest Chapter of American Association of Airport Executives.

Greg Harvey, Police Detective, was honored by the U.S. Department of Justice for his teamwork on a series of eco-sabotage arsons and other regional crimes over a five-year period.

Jan Griffin, Library Senior Administrative Specialist, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award by the Oregon Library Association.

Larry Shock, Firefighter/Paramedic, who retired in 2008, received the EMS Cross, a lifetime achievement award, from the Oregon Department of Human Services.

Eric Jones, Public Affairs Manager, received the Oregon Chapter of the American Public Works Association’s Bowes Award for positive impact on public works programs.

Anne Donahue, Organics Program Coordinator, was selected by the Association of Oregon Recyclers to receive the Alice Soderwall Reuse and Waste Prevention Award.

Karen Anderson, Emergency Medical Services Instructor, was named the EMS Educator of the Year by the Oregon Department of Human Services.

Steve Williams, Police Detective, received the 2008 Public Service award from the Oregon Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigation Units.

City Programs and Departments
The Eugene Public Works Department earned re-accreditation by the American Public Works Association and was recognized for two model practices that set industry standards.

The Public Works Wastewater Division met all of the requirements of the Oregon OSHA Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program.

For the second consecutive year, the Eugene Airport was awarded first place for Facility Management Excellence by the International Facility Management Association.

The Delta Ponds Habitat Enhancement Project was recognized by the state’s Salmon Trout Project Advisory Committee for outstanding work to restore salmon and wildlife habitat.

The City of Eugene received a Certificate of Distinction, the highest honor bestowed by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Center for Performance Measurement.

The City of Eugene received two awards from the Government Finance Officers Association – one for Distinguished Budget Presentation and one for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Community Recognition
The WestTown on 8th Affordable Housing Development was selected for an Award of Distinction by the Urban Land Institute of Oregon/SW Washington.
