Bold Step Award March 2010 - SeQuential Biofuels
Overview
SeQuential is very strong in all areas of the triple bottom line. They pay their workers, mostly station attendants, above average industry wages, provide health and dental insurance, and have profit sharing and bonus plans. They sourced all their building material for their Eugene station within a 50 mile radius, use 100 perecent Eugene Water and Electric Board wind power to cover what their solar array doesn't provide, and the station building has a 2,000 square foot grass roof.

Partnerships and Biofuels
SeQuential actively reaches out to create partnerships, working with local schools to educate about biofuels, with community groups to plant oilseed crops such as sunflowers for harvesting for fuel, and partnering with local businesses to create the April Earth Month carbon challenge. Their boldest step indicates a willingness to take a significant but well-thought-out risk to achieve their primary objective, which is to move their biodiesel pricing away from being directly tied to petroleum markets. They are doing this by sourcing all biofuels sold at the Eugene station from within Oregon. Over 80 percent of that biofuel is from used cooking oil and the remainder is from non-GMO(Genetically Modified Organism) canola grown in rotation cycles with food crops.
