1.
How can I learn more about police work?
EPD offers a 13-week Citizens’ Police Academy at least once a year — students learn all about police operations and even get to shoot police firearms and drive police cars during one portion of the academy. This course is intended to teach participants more about their local police department; it will not train you to be a police officer. Go to the Citizens’ Academy page in the “Get Involved” section of this website, or call 682-2751 for more information.
2.
Can I volunteer with the police department?
The Eugene Police Department has a very active volunteer program, with many different opportunities for volunteers to share their interests and enthusiasm and / or build job skills. See the volunteering page on this website or call 682-5355 for more information.
3.
How can I become a police officer?
Position information, including candidate requirements and information about the physical abilities test, is available on this website on the
Police Employment
page. Some information is also available by calling 541-682-2676. If you have further questions after reading the available material, please call the City of Eugene’s Human Resources & Risk Services Department at 541-682-5061.
Applications are accepted only when a position is open. Any job openings (for police officers or for non-sworn police personnel) will be advertised in the Register-Guard classifieds and posted online at the City of Eugene’s
jobs page
. To receive notification when a position opens, find the “police officer” position on the jobs page and fill out a Job Interest Card form.
