The South Ridgeline Habitat Maps page displays information gathered from the South Ridgeline Habitat Study. More information about the study
The study involved a five-month inventory and assessment of more than 2600 acres of upland habitats on public and private land in Eugene's South Ridgeline area. The study was undertaken to document the location, quantity, and quality of upland habitat, and suitability of habitat for uncommon and rare species in the area, and to do so in a way that meets the inventory standards contained in the administrative rules for Oregon's Statewide Planning Goal 5.
The study began in May 2006 with the City leading preparatory meetings between staff and consultants, hosting a public information meeting, and sending out 1581 individual property owner requests for access for the field inventory along with information about the overall project. The inventory methodology was refined during this period with particular attention to the vegetation and wildlife communities found in Eugene. The consultants then conducted on- and off-site field inventories, completed spatial and text data entry and analysis, and assessed (rated) site values.
This information above comes from the final report written about
the study. For more details, see the South
Ridgeline Habitat Maps page for a link to the South
Ridgeline Habitat Study page. That page contains links to the final
report and other information.
The page allows you to view collected data on a map, for a specific property or group of properties, within the study area.
Locating a property or area on the map involves one or more of the following:
Searching with a map and tax lot number.
Searching with an address (if an address exists for a property; an address may not be assigned for some vacant, undeveloped properties).
Using map tools to zoom in to an area on the map. Once you display a small enough area with the tools, you can select a specific property and learn its map and tax lot number and address (if an address is available).
Layers
One layer, the Citizen Conservation Proposal layer, shows how a nine-member citizen task group prioritized areas within the study boundary for conservation protection. Click for details about layers

View the South Ridgeline Habitat Maps page
1 On
the City Home page, in the City Quick Links section, click Planning and Development:

2 On the Planning and Development page, in the Navigation - Sub Levels section, point to Planning, then click South Ridgeline Habitat Study Maps.

Search for a specific property
1 On the Search tab, do one of the following and click Submit:
Type all or part of an Address.
Important The more complete the address you enter, the more the program narrows your search and the more likely it will list the address. More?
House No.
Street Name
The search uses the beginning characters of a street name. In a search for a street in the study area, Pine Canyon Drive, pine finds the first 50 addresses that begin with Pine:
Pine Canyon Dr
Pine Forest Dr
Pine Ridge Pl
Pine View Ct
If you type the entire street name Pine Canyon only Pine Canyon addresses are returned.
Sometimes a partial name works successfully. If you're searching for an address on Hunters Glen Drive in the habitat study area, and you type the partial street name Hunt the program returns all Hunters Glen Drive addresses.
Dir
Type both the Map and Lot numbers.
Important The last five digits of a map and tax lot are the lot identifier. Type the lot number in the second box. View example

Search Results tab displays with one or more addresses, or with a message indicating the search could not match your entry.
2 On the Search Results tab, click Select at the end of an address line.
The program
Locates
the property on the map, zooms in if necessary, and indicates the selected
property with diagonal lines:

Note If the property is not within the study area, the program displays a message with that information.
Displays map and tax lot, and the property address (if an address exists for the property) information on the Site Info tab below the search area.
Use map tools to define an area on the map
When necessary, click a tool to use it. The red outline indicates which tool is selected. In the picture of the tools below, Zoom In is selected. In that case, there's no need to click the Zoom In icon to use it with the map.

1 With the Zoom In tool selected, do one of the following to get a closer view:
Click the center of the area on the map where you want to look closer.
Drag to create a rectangle around the area you want to zoom to. View example
When you drag to create the rectangle below . . .

. . . the program zooms in to a view similar to this picture . . .

View properties with different layers of habitat information
To change the data displayed
for the same area on the map, select a different layer:

Notes
A description of the selected layer displays below the map.
When you select a different layer, if the property selected is not in the study area, the program displays a message with that information along with refreshing the map and showing the new layer. Click OK in the message window to continue.
Print the map with layer and habitat information
After you select a property, the program allows you to print the map, with its colored information, from the selected layer. View example
This example below shows how the Habitat Types layer for the selected property (Map and Lot number 18031630 045030) prints. Surrounding properties are dimmed in the picture below, leaving the selected property with its diagonal lines visible in the middle of picture.
The property contains six habitat types. Colors and text from the Legend have been added to the picture below and placed near the location of the habitat type on the property.

Descriptions of the layer and habitat information related to the selected property appear below the printed map. The printed view defaults to a preset zoom, regardless of how near or distant the map on the Web page displays the property.
Click the Print
picture next to the Tools section.

Note If the colors displayed in the legends do not print with your color printer, you can change your browser setting. View details
Microsoft example:
