The Project Maps page displays a map showing current and future capital projects in Eugene.
Capital projects include work related to construction of parks, airport, transportation, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure. Eugene's Public Works Department designs and manages the projects.
The page allows you to search for and select projects in several ways. You can view projects:
Near an address.
Located within City-designated neighborhood association boundaries.
Map tools allow you to select projects individually, or within an area you designate on the map.
Information about selected projects displays on a Project Details tab. More?
You can first use the Search tab to focus on an area of the map with an address or Neighborhood. If projects exist nearby or are in the area you have focused on, the program selects those projects.
The Project
Details tab displays information about the selected projects. When
more than one project has already been selected, tools at the top of the
tab allow you to select and display information about only one project:
Click links above to view details lower in this Help topic about how to use the page.
See the Important information just below for information about how the page works.
How do I find the Project Maps page on the Eugene Web site?
On the City Home page, in the City Quick Links section, click PW Projects. On the PW Projects page, in the Navigation - Current Level section, click Project Maps.
When you interact with the page, your current map view may change to focus on a project you select.
The map display may change from a close-in view to a wider view to include all locations of a project.
If you are looking at an area around a selected address or at a neighborhood association location, and a project you select is confined to a small area, the view may zoom in to give a closer view of the area.
Map
often displays a "project view"
For example, a project titled
"Manhole Sealing Project in the Amazon Central Basins 07" is
located near 100 W. 10th Ave. in downtown Eugene:

This manhole sealing project, however, may be occurring not only near
the address in central Eugene, but also in areas away from the downtown
area.
An initial address search
displays the project(s) near the address (as seen in the picture above).
(Although the program may not work this when you first select an address.
See an important
note below.)
However, when you select a project by clicking the previously
or next
selected
Project arrows at the Project
Details tab . . .

. . . the map view zooms out to show other areas where the project
occurs:

If a project you select is confined to a small area, this "project view" program behavior may have the opposite effect from what's described above, causing the map to zoom in to give a closer view of the area.
You can select again either
the Address on the Results
tab to return to the original view . . .

. . . or the Neighborhood on
the Search tab.
See more about the address search and neighborhood selection processes below.
Current and Future projects, and notes about the map display
Selected projects and neighborhoods display in yellow.
Current
unselected projects display in red, future projects display in blue. When
different projects occur in the same location, overlapping colors create
different color shades on the map.

The map display shows only current projects by default. The View tab allows you to select other views that include future projects.
You can select projects only from the view that displays; for example, since future projects do not display in the Current Projects Only view, that view only allows you to select current projects.
When you change views after selecting an address, neighborhood, or project(s), the program removes those selections when it refreshes the map to display the different view you select on the View tab.
To avoid having to search again for an address or reselect a neighborhood after the program has removed those selections, first select a desired different view on the View tab and then select an address or neighborhood.
You always can reselect either the
Address on the Results
tab . . .

. . . or the Neighborhood on
the Search tab to restore your
address or Neighborhood selection.
Search for an address
Important Currently (June, 2008), when you search for an address, the program does not always work as described in the steps below. Although the program selects projects within a one-mile circle of the selected address, the map often does not display a view that shows the address within that circle. (Click "View example" in the next paragraph.) Rather, the map automatically refreshes and displays a project that is described on the Project Details tab. Selecting the address again on the Results tab, perhaps several times, may eventually offer a view similar to the example below.
Note The map displays the selected address in the center of a one-mile diameter circle. The program selects projects that occur at least partially within that circle. View example

1 On the Search tab, type a full or partial address and click Submit.
Important The more complete the address you enter, the more the program narrows your search and the more likely it will list the address. More?
The search looks anywhere in the address database for consecutive characters you type, in any of the address boxes.
If you type glen
in Street Name,
for example, the search returns several streets containing Glen:
If you type 30
in House No.
or Street Name, the search finds
30 anywhere
in the address:
If you type the entire street name Hunters Glen only
Hunters Glen Dr addresses are returned:
Sometimes a partial name works successfully if the characters you type are unique to a Eugene street name. With the Hunters Glen example above, iIf you type the partial street name Hunt the program returns only Hunters Glen Drive addresses.
Dir

Results tab displays with one or more addresses, or with a message indicating the search could not match your entry.
2 On the Results tab, click Select at the end of an address line.
The program:
Locates
the address on the map, zooms in or out if necessary, centers the address
location in a circle with a one-mile diameter, and indicates the address
with a star:

Displays information about projects that occur within the one-mile circle on the Project Details tab.
Displays those selected projects with a yellow color overlay. However, the yellow combines with the colors used to indicate current and future projects, which causes the project areas to display in several shades. For example, yellow over either current or future project colors looks like this:

When yellow over lays the combined current and future projects display, even more shades are possible.
Select a Neighborhood association and the projects within its borders
Important Currently (June, 2008), when you select a neighborhood, the program does not always work as described below. Although the program selects projects that fall within the neighborhood boundaries, the map often does not display a view that shows the neighborhood area in yellow. Rather, the map automatically refreshes and displays a project that is described on the Project Details tab. Selecting the neighborhood again on the Search tab (although you must click a different neighborhood before selecting the original neighborhood again), may eventually display the neighborhood area.
On the Search tab, click a neighborhood in the Neighborhood list.
The program:
Zooms the map view in or out as necessary and highlights the selected neighborhood association in yellow on the map.
Displays information about projects that fall within the neighborhood boundaries on the Project Details tab. (See information about the Details tab just below.)
The Project Details tab and other notes about selecting projects
When you select an address or neighborhood, details about projects found in those areas display on the Project Details tab.
The Center
map on Project tool and previously
or next selected Project arrows
display at the top of the tab.

When you click these tools, the information on the tab most likely changes, and the program most likely zooms the map in or out to select the project described on the tab. See "Project View" above.
Click the Center
the map on this Project tool
when:
The tab includes details for just one project.
You want to select the first project of multiple projects included on the tab. (Do this for your first selection when you are selecting projects from a fresh group of projects listed on the tab.)
You want to return to a previous map view of the listed project after you have adjusted the map (with the Pan or Zoom In tools, for example).
When you select projects from the tab, if an address or neighborhood is selected on the map, the program removes that selection. To restore the view with your address or neighborhood selection, reselect either the Address on the Results tab or the Neighborhood on the Search tab.
Information about the purpose of a line on the tab displays when
you pause the pointer on an information symbol.

Use map tools to define an area on the map and select projects
When necessary, click a tool to use it. The red outline indicates which tool is selected.

Zoom In
After you click Zoom In (if necessary) do one of the following to get a closer view:
Click the center of the area on the map where you want to look closer.
Drag to create a rectangle around the area you want to zoom to.

Zoom Out
After you click Zoom Out, click, or drag, an area of the map.
Move the map display

Select projects

Point Selection
Information about the project displays on the Project Details tab.
The program removes a previously selected address or neighborhood from the map display. To restore the view with your address or neighborhood selection, reselect either the Address on the Results tab or the Neighborhood on the Search tab.

Box Selection

If
you selected more than one project, click the Center
map on Project tool and previously
or next selected Project arrows
at the top of the tab:

When you use Box Selection, the program removes a previously selected address or neighborhood from the map display. To restore the view with your address or neighborhood selection, reselect either the Address on the Results tab or the Neighborhood on the Search tab.
Box Selection does not change the map's zoom level.
