Looking for specific
events? |
Important The calendar accepts only one change that you make to its current view at a time. For example, to make several changes during the same calendar session, such as any of the following . . .
Change
the current time frame by clicking a different tab:

Search
for a word or character string:

Select
a Category filter:

Change the starting date
of displayed events:

. . . you must interact with the calendar after each individual change. See the example just below.
Example Search for a word ( dance ) in a specific Category (Adults):
1 Type
a search word and click the Search
button.

The program displays events from the selected time frame that include dance (or those consecutive characters) in the events' Title, Description or Location.
2 Select
a Category and click the Go button.

The program refreshes the view and displays events containing the characters dance that are identified with the Category Adults.
Important If you type a search word but do not click the Search button as described in Step 1 above, and then perform Step 2, the program refreshes the view using the selected Adults Category but ignores the search word dance that you typed in Step 1.
Calendar selection important One way to focus on a desired group of events is to first select just the specific calendars you want to view. This potentially allows you to decrease the number of events displayed, rather than display all events entered in the City-wide calendar for your selected time frame.
A list of Available Calendars displays on the left side of the Calendar page.
Events relate to one or more of the specific calendars. By default, the program combines all of the multiple specific calendars into one display on the City-wide Events Calendar page.
In the Available Calendars list, when you select or clear either the:
Select All / Clear All check box
A specific calendar check box by clicking the
check box

the program displays the Update
Display button:

Important For your new calendar selection to take effect, you must click the Update Display button. Clicking the button is a part of the important process of interacting with the calendar after each individual change. (This process is discussed at the beginning of this topic.) If you do not click the Update Display button, and then you make another change to your calendar view, your new calendar selection is lost.
Change the calendar selection by doing any of the following:
Select one calendar

To redisplay all calendars, select the Select
All / Clear All check box and click the Update
Display button.
Display events from two or more (but not all) calendars
1 Select the Select All / Clear All check box (until all check boxes are cleared).
2
Select the check boxes related to the calendars
you want to view.

3 Click the Update Display button.
4 To display events from different calendars, repeat Steps 1 -3.
5 To redisplay all calendars, select the Select All / Clear All check box and click the Update Display button.
Alternately, to display
two or more calendars, clear the check boxes related to the calendars
you do not want to view, and click Update
Display. In the picture below, the Boards
& Commissions check box has been cleared.

Search for characters that match the text found in information about an event
You can narrow the range of the display with a search filter.

When you click the Search button, the program searches for events in the calender that include the characters you type in the search text box.
Search looks in an event's
Title, Description
and Location for the consecutive
characters you type, and then displays only the events that match those
characters.

Partial words may work for your search. If you type just comm for example, search would find events with these words: community, commission, committee, comment and commute.
Characters must exactly match the text in the event record. Search would not find the word bicycle if you searched with bike .
Print Event Information, Add Event to Your Computer Calendar
You can print details of individual events on separate printed pages. Additionally, if your computer has a calendar program that supports the exporting of calendar data between different types of programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes and Palm Desktop, you can export an event to your computer calendar.
1 Click
the title of an event.

2 In the WebEvent Event window, do any of the following:
Click the Print link at the top of the page.
To add the event to your calendar, click the Export Event link and then, in the File Download window, click Open.
To save the event information as a calendar file, click Save and select a destination for the file.
Note Details in the steps above may differ, depending on your browser.
More tips
The calendar display of events indicates if an event is entered on one specific calendar, or on more than one calendar.
When an event is included in more than one calendar, the display uses the phrase multiple cals .
When an event is entered on just one calendar, the program includes the calendar name. (Click to view an example of an event entered only on the City's Recreation calendar).
