Use Benchmark Tools

After displaying the Benchmarks page, use the Tools and the scroll arrows at the edges of the map to select benchmarks and change the view on the map.


 

 

 

Tools that

  • Click the adjacent pictures or text to view more details in this topic below, or simply scroll through the topic.

  • The red outline indicates which tool is selected. In the picture of the tools, Zoom In is selected. In that case, there's no need to click the Zoom In icon to use it with the map.

Zoom In  –  Displays a closer view of the area on the map that you click or drag in.

Zoom Out  –  Displays a longer distant view of the area on the map that you click or drag in. Zoom Out is similar to Zoom In, only in reverse.

Move the Map Display

Pan  –  Moves the display in the direction you drag the pointer. (Press and hold the mouse button while you drag the mouse pointer.)


 

Scroll arrows  –  Moves the display in the direction of the arrow.

Select Benchmarks

Point Selection  –  When you click a benchmark symbol on the map, displays details about that benchmark in the Benchmark Detail area at the lower left of the page.

Box Selection  –  When you drag to create a rectangle around one or more benchmarks on the map, displays details about the benchmarks in the Benchmark Detail area at the lower left of the page. If you selected more than one benchmark, click the next and previously selected arrows to view details.

This tool selects benchmarks even if the view is zoomed out so far the benchmark symbols don't display on the map.

Note  Colors of benchmarks you select with the Point Selection or Box Selection tool change from blue to yellow:

Clear Selections, Return to Default Full Extent

Zoom to Full Extent  –  Zooms the map outwards, displaying the entire area of the map. When you click Zoom to Full Extent, the new view occurs automatically.

Clear All Selections  – Removes selections you've made with the Point and Box Selection tools. When you click Clear All Selections, the benchmark symbol changes from yellow to blue, and the information displayed in the Benchmark Detail area disappears. Additionally, if you have selected an address but not a benchmark, removes from the map the yellow star that indicates the location of the address.

Print the Benchmark Detail

Note  If you selected more than one benchmark with the Box Selection tool, click the next and previously selected arrows and individually print each benchmark description and map.
