1. Can I add more time to a parking meter?

Yes, it is ok to add more time to a meter. If you need to park for a longer duration than the meter allows, then we offer many off-street parking lot and garage options.

2. How do I contact parking garage security?

The City of Eugene Parking program provides 24/7 security in their garages. If you need to contact garage security, then please dial 541-682-8200. If it is an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

3. Does the City of Eugene offer free parking?

YES! The Overpark and Parcade garages provide free parking for your first hour. It is $0.75 / hour after your first free hour, and up to $3.50 for all day parking. All parking garages are free on weekends (except for event parking) and holidays. City of Eugene on-street meters operate Monday through Saturday. All parking is free after 6:00 PM and before 7:00 AM (except for event parking).

4. How do I report a broken meter?

You can report a broken meter by calling (541) 682-5729 with the meter number. If you are parking at the meter, leave a note on your car on your dashboard or under the wiper as well as on the meter to bring it to the attention of the Parking Enforcement Officers. You can park at a broken meter for the maximum time limit noted on meter. Parking beyond the maximum time limit may result in a parking citation being issued.

5. Why do I buy and receive a City of Eugene monthly parking permit from Diamond Parking Services?

The City of Eugene contracts with Diamond Parking Services for distribution of monthly parking permits and residential parking permits.

6. Does Diamond Parking Services own the Overpark and Parcade garages?

No, the City of Eugene owns and manages the Overpark and Parcade garages, as well as other downtown garages and surface lots. The City of Eugene contracts with Diamond Parking Services to staff the payment collection booths in the garages. All revenue collected from the garages goes to the City of Eugene.

7. Do downtown businesses validate parking for shopping in their store (like Portland)?

YES! Downtown Eugene, Inc. promotes and manages the downtown business parking validation program. Please ask your favorite business if they validate. Validations are valid for the Overpark and Parcade Garages.

8. How long can I keep my vehicle parked on the street (in a space with no meters or time limits)?

A vehicle may be stored on the street for up to 72 hours. It must move from the block after 72 hours.

9. When was the first parking meter installed in Eugene?

On December 4, 1939, 145 parking meters were installed on Broadway and Willamette in downtown Eugene. The parking meter violation fine was $1.

10. Can I rent a parking space at my house?

"Parking Areas" not directly related to the primary use on the property are only permitted in specific commercial and/or industrial zones. Residential zones do not allow for paid parking areas for non-residents. Therefore, non-residents are prohibited from renting out parking on their property.

11. When are parking meters enforced?

With the exception of the holidays, meters are enforced Monday through Saturday throughout the year. Meters are not enforced on Sundays. Time limits on meters vary depending on the area in which they are located (from 30 minutes up to 10 hours). Generally, meters in business districts have time limits for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

12. On what holidays are parking meters free?

Meters are NOT enforced on Sundays and the following legal holidays:

• New Year’s Day on January 1
• Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday on the third Monday in January
• Presidents Day, on the third Monday in February
• Memorial Day on the last Monday in May
• Independence Day on July 4
• Labor Day on the first Monday in September.
  Veterans Day on November 11
• Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday in November
• Christmas Day on December 25

Meters are enforced on the day after Thanksgiving.
