Kids: Black History Play (10:15 & 11:00)

Wednesday, February 24

Interactive show about astronaut Mae Jemison.

In honor of Black History Month, Eugene Public Library hosts an audience-participation play for children performed by students of The Drinking Gourd School.

“Mae Jemison: To Fly in Space
,” written by school director Trisha Whitney, tells the story of the American physician and NASA astronaut who became the first African American woman to travel in space.

This show is the Drinking Gourd School’s 24th annual performance for Black History Month at Eugene Public Library. The Drinking Gourd School is a small K-2 elementary school in North Eugene that teaches individual academics, global awareness, cooperative learning, and anti-bias attitudes.
