On The Job Training Following their Academy, new Communication Specialists advance to on-the-job training in which they are assigned to a team of Communication Specialists certified as Field Training Officers for one-on-one training in the Communications Center. This training typically lasts for a period of six weeks. This is followed by a written test.
Central Lane utilizes the Field Training and Evaluation Program, or "FTEP". FTEP is a multi-phase training program in which the trainee performs the functions of the job with and without the assistance of the coach and is then subjectively rated on performance in each job category . The goal of the program is to reach levels that meet minimum acceptable standards and to maintain those performance standards on a daily basis. This training program has been in place at Central Lane since 1994 and is quickly becoming the standard for training throughout the state.
